Budd Park Wharf

Project Type: Statement of Heritage Impact
Client: Tweed Shire Council
LGA: Tweed, NSW

Remedial works completed conducted by the Tweed Shire Council along of the river bank of the Tweed River at Murwillumbah uncovered the remains of wooden piles that related to a former wharf and transport depot. Everick was commissioned to provide an assessment of known and potential historical cultural heritage values of these recently uncovered remains. Works included:

  • a literature review and the collation of the available historical resources;a site inspection;
  • a statement of heritage impact; and
  • research and implementation of conservation practices to prevent further deterioration of the site.

Everick advised the Tweed Shire Council that the site should be listed for inclusion on the Local Heritage Register and registered on the Tweed Shire LEP. As additional measures, Everick recommended that the piles be interpreted and incorporated into a form of Visual Interpretation and Integration Scheme which would be informed through a community consultation process and potential future subsurface excavations.
