Byron Rail

In 2015, Everick were engaged by Task Group Services to undertake a Cultural Heritage Impact Assessment of proposed use of vacant railway lands for access and car park purposes in Byron Bay. Works included a brief desktop review and site inspection to identify the key heritage values of the site. The site inspection identified various heritage features including:


  • Hand operated switch and crossing unit;
  • Signals unit;
  • Five steel posts;
  • Steel pegs with pulleys;
  • Cement block with a polythene pipe and four bolts and;
  • Galvanised pipe fastened to two steel pegs


Based on the findings, Everick provided the client with a number of recommendations to limit any potential impacts to the heritage significance of the rail and associated infrastructure.
