Cultural Heritage Assessments and Community Consultation

An Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessment is required where a due diligence assessment recommends that further investigation is warranted. Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessments build on due diligence assessment framework and is generally a more thorough document which includes a detailed consultation process.

Everick structures this type of assessment to satisfy the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) Code of practice for Archaeological Investigation of Aboriginal Objects in NSW (2010) and the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Consultation Requirements for Proponents (2010). Where it is proposed that a development cannot avoid harm Aboriginal heritage, an application must be made for Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permit.
