The Project

In this project, Everick Heritage and Nyikina Mangala People have pioneered a cutting-edge Indigenous cultural mapping initiative, combining Traditional Knowledge with modern geospatial technology. This project involves comprehensive mapping and recording of significant cultural heritage sites across Nyikina and Mangala Country. Our team is working closely with the Nyikina Mangala community to document their significant cultural landscapes, stories and sites using advanced web-mapping technology. This project is built upon an Indigenous-led framework, which aims to empower the community by providing tools, skills and systems to better manage and preserve their cultural heritage. Consequently, the project prioritises community control, collaboration and collective decision making about public access, data sharing or restrictions and ICP management. Community members lead this initiative, ensuring that their knowledge, perspectives and cultural practices are represented, respected and recorded in an authentic and accurate manner. Everick supports the Nykina Mangala community in the delivery of this project, exemplifying our commitment to community-led heritage management practices and the integration of modern technology with Traditional Knowledge.
