The Project

This project included the preparation of a Cultural Heritage Management Plan in advance of public park upgrades to the Healesville Freeway Reserve on Wurundjeri Country. Several obstacles were encountered during this complex assessment including the identification of asbestos at several locations in the Reserve. Everick Heritage worked with the Wurundjeri and local asbestos experts to safely continue with the heritage investigation—completing works on time and on budget. Additionally, the team identified a large and rich lithic artefact scatter containing an awl, a scraper, retouched flakes, geometric microliths, blades and multiple cores. These lithics were analysed by the team to provide a detailed report of the finds and were registered as a new Aboriginal Place in proximity to Dandenong Creek.
