Beaufort Level Crossing Upgrades

The Project

This project included the preparation of a Cultural Heritage Management Plan in advance of rail line upgrades near the Beaufort Rail Station on Wadawurrung Country. Historical archaeological heritage works were also undertaken as part of this project. The Beaufort Rail Station was included in the Heritage Overlay amongst other features, such as the Victorian Heritage Inventory (VHI) site H7523-0099 known as the ‘Former Beaufort Station Master’s Residence.’ Everick Heritage conducted historical desktop research, a site survey and GPR survey for the Residence. The results revealed that the site covers a larger area than previously recorded, necessitating an update to the VHI site card in consultation with Heritage Victoria. The ability to leverage in-house archaeological GPR services in conjunction with traditional assessment approaches has resulted in improvements to the long-term management of these precious heritage resources.
